Larry Goldman is an Associate Teaching Professor in the chemistry department at UW-Seattle. He holds a BA in chemistry from Rutgers University and a PhD in chemistry from Cardiff University (UK). He moved from Seattle to Lake Forest Park in 2016 in order to live in a quieter, greener neighborhood that still provided easy access to the university and other amenities. He's grateful that Lake Forest Park is such a welcoming and nature-focused city.
His career as an educator has shown Larry the importance of being able to communicate complex ideas to diverse groups of people. He feels it is critical for LFP residents to understand what projects the city is working on and to provide input on what they want those projects to be. Larry commits to making city government transparent and responsive to community feedback. And he is committed to Lake Forest Park continuing to be a welcoming city that values its people and its natural resources.
Larry also believes in the value of representation. It's important that members of the community see a broad group of people as elected officials and working for them in city government. As an openly-gay man, a STEM educator, and a resident of the southern corner of LFP, Larry believes that he would broaden the diversity of the council.
Through his work on the city council, Larry also serves on the following government boards:
- Co-chair of the SeaShore Transportation Forum
- Member of the Regional Crisis Response (RCR) Principal's Assembly
- Council Liaison to the Tree Board
Larry is an active member of the community, volunteering for several local organizations including:
- 12 Degrees North Homeowners Association
- 1st LD DemocratsÂ
- North Seattle Progressives (grassroots organization) - served on executive board for several years
