Parks are a way to improve the quality of life for residents. The most recent PROST report found that Lake Forest Park's per capita park space is actually below average. I strongly support increasing the number of parks to improve the quality of life for LFP residents.
Lakefront park - Despite bordering Lake Washington, LFP doesn't have much public access to Lake Washington. The Lyon Creek preserve is a small ecological preserve that is not allowed to be used for active recreation. The city is currently designing a lakefront park directly adjacent to the Lyon Creek preserve. I will continue to work with city staff to design a park that provides the Lake Washington access and amenities that the community has asked for and to make sure that we are funding the park responsibly.
Park equity - some neighborhoods in LFP don't have easy access to any parks. In those neighborhoods, I would support increasing connections to existing parks, or working with private partners to find opportunities to acquire space. My goal is for every neighborhood in LFP to have park space that families can easily and safely access.
It is also important to consider that park space needs to be maintained. I would work to ensure that the city responsibly and transparently budgets resources to maintain the quality of existing and new parks.
