Pedestrian Mobility

Transportation and mobility are among my core issues as vehicle transportation is the largest contributor of greenhouse gas in LFP. I'm proud of the work the city has done so far to improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

Speed limits - I voted in favor adopting holistic guidelines for setting speed limits which lowered speed limits throughout on city streets, particular busy arterials. Evidence clearly shows that lower vehicle speeds mean fewer pedestrian deaths and injuries. I also support working with WSDOT to lower the 40mph speed limits on Bothell Way and Ballinger Way.

Sidewalks - People need safe routes to get from their house to schools, businesses, bus stops, and more. While some neighborhoods do have sidewalks, others don't. And too many roads near our elementary schools don't have sidewalks. My top priority is safer walking routes near schools. My second priority is providing better sidewalks in neighborhoods that have historically lacked this infrastructure. I do acknowledge that sidewalks are expensive, which is why I support more budget-friendly options such as extruded curbs like the city installed on 35th Ave north of Ballinger Way. These provide protecting for vulnerable pedestrians at a fraction of the cost.

Public transit - I don't own a car and rely on public transit to get around town. I'm familiar with the strengths and challenges with riding transit in LFP. As the co-chair of the Seashore Transportation forum, I have engaged with staff members from King County Metro and Sound Transit about these challenges. If re-elected, I will continue to work to make sure that public transit is accessible to our community and to improve connectivity with regional destinations such as our neighboring cities, universities and community colleges, and Link light rail.
